Cy Torgeson
/ Instructor

I've had an interest in music since a very early age. From being a 6 yr.old listening to my mom's big band records and copying on the organ or piano. Then joining school band in Primary school at 4th grade and picking up guitar at 11. By 12 l was moved to drum section and dad bought me a Ringo Star set of Ludwigs. Still playing guitar,l now wanted to be a rock drummer. That all changed at 16 when I switched back to guitar to learn to play lead guitar. Started lessons with Galen Niles for 3 years and learned all kinds of rock guitar solos and some neoclassical music. Galen taught me how to play by ear as we didn't have tabs back then.

In 1973 Texas made it legal to drink at 18 and I knew I had to start a band. Went to Trinity University and found 2 music majors who became the drummer and bassist. They had a prodigy guitar player and wanted a rhythm player for the complicated songs they wanted to play.

On March 31st of 1974 | turned 18 and on April 1st I played my first gig with that band named Wisper. I have always considered this my best band as I learned so much and these fellows had friends all over that were into recording. Buying and selling vintage gear. When I turned 18 l also inherited a sizeable college trust fund and well, spent a bit on the new burgeoning vintage music business.

All of this started my lifelong work in the music business. From playing in front of good crowds, to working concerts, playing in several very good bands and buying and selling vintage equipment which I still do today and becoming a sound engineer while repairing all kinds of gear and guitars.

Started giving lessons in the 1990's while going back to college to get a degree in Teaching and helping kids with disabilities. After getting my degree I spent a year at South San but while in Boerne one day in year 2000, noticed a small, cool looking building next to the library. A perfect spot for a store and music lessons. It took off quickly as l used my teaching skills with kids and word of mouth I built up a number of students very quickly.

Unfortunately, in 2020 Covid hit and had to close store. So I packed up and moved north to Michigan and started a lesson center called Haslett Music Academy in Lansing MI. Three years later I am back in San Antonio starting up another school. I love to play music and teach and will do so until I can't hold a guitar anymore.

I would love to teach children and adults alike the beauty of music and the confidence it will supply you!
